RULE 06 OF 13 · PART 2: THE READING

Price it. Then fix it or walk away. Never carry it.

The price is what you pay. The cost is your opportunities.

WHERE YOU ARE · MOVE 4 OF 6: PRICE IT

CHAPTER 06EVERY PROBLEM HAS A PRICE0:00

Imagine every problem in your life has a price tag hanging off it.

The late fee you keep paying. The person you should have let go a year ago. The conversation you've put off with your father. Most people never look at the tag, and that's the first reason problems grow.

The price is what you pay. The cost is your opportunities. The repair you keep postponing is priced at a few hundred dollars and costing you the car on the day you need it most. Use dollars even when it isn't about money, because dollars make a man pay attention.

Once it's priced, there are only two honest answers: fix it, or walk away. Staying isn't a third option. Staying is paying. And walking away from a priced problem isn't running. It's collecting. Chapter 6 covers the dominoes, three steps back before you sign, and the deal that wants a year of your life.

PLATE · CHAPTER 06EVERY PROBLEM HAS A PRICE

THE RULE, AGAIN

Every problem has a price, and every problem pays.

THE DEBT
THE PAYMENT
An unpriced problem is a debt you don't know the size of, and that's the most expensive kind, because you can't decide anything about a number you refuse to read.
Price it and the problem becomes a decision, and decisions can be collected on.

NOBODY GETS TO NOT PAY. YOU ONLY GET TO CHOOSE THE COLUMN.

SAY IT OUT LOUD

The price is what I pay. The cost is my opportunities.
DO THIS TODAYRULE 06

List three problems you've been ignoring. Next to each one, write what it will cost you if it keeps going for a year. Use dollars even when it isn't about money. Then look at the three numbers together. That total is the bill you've been carrying. Next to each one, write a single word: fix, or walk. Not "later." Later is the word that's been costing you.
